Flowers and Colorful Plants

[Home] [Up]

I have found that the best way to use a new tool is to find a project and just start doing it and the learning will come. I have used this to learn how to use computers, cameras, programs, and making web pages. As the saying goes "Just Do It". This project is two maybe four fold learning the camera and shooting flowers with the Digital along with a little Photo Shop thrown in.

In Hawaii we have these trees that have blooms year round this is a popular flower for leis.
The full Blossom with the Bud peeking through with the dark background makes it easy on the eye's
Taken at the intersection of the Fan Palm the older outer stems turn a rich reddish brown before they die and fall off. But the new stems are a vibrant green in the middle.
These have been one of my favorite style shots of the large palm leaves. Get under the leaf and put it between you and the sun if you get some shadow from other leaves all the better.
These Yellow Buds were bobbin in the wind and it made it difficult to photography. I found a few buds low to the ground and out of the wind. I especial like how the three green leaves in the background complement the Yellow bud.
The preverbal Bird of Paradise. This a rather large flower about the size of a mans hand. I wanted a shot of this with out the rest of the plants worn blooms getting in the frame. I found this lone bloom with the green as a nice background.
Just parts of the orange/red flower of the Bird of Paradise. This is getting closer to the Abstract end of the assignment that I'm working on. I want strong color against a contrasting background. You know its a flower but not just another flower shot.

A beautiful White Hibiscus that I just could not pass up.

This is where Photography starts to blend in with painting. Years ago I went to art school but soon learned that I could not draw and drifted to photography to satisfy my "Artistic Side". A very quick adjustment to the images. It was done in Adobe Photoshop's limited edition 5.0. Using Filter->Artistic->Paint Daubs.
