Replacing Light Seals

[Home] [Up]

The repair of Light Seals is a very simple but a little time consuming the worst part is removing the old sticky seal.

After working with other and most of the time expensive and hard to come by material (see Yashica) I read about this in a camera repair bulletin board and found a sheet for $0.98 now that's a deal. I also found this very easy to work with, now will it last for 20 years ....
Set a nice straight edge and start cutting. If you don't have a paper cutter a sharp knife and a metal rule should work.
While I have the desk clear I just cut a bunch of strips of approximate width and just save them in a bag for ready use.
Like a lot of Cameras the Foam Seals have turned into a nice gummy black mess. Looking around the camera back and along the hinge the mess can be seen. First step is to remove this with Q-Tips, Alcohol and what ever works. Be careful to keep it out of the camera you don't want to make the job any bigger.
For those spots that a Q-tip is to big.
Just roll a little cotton around a tooth pick.
