Dave

The Navy decided to send me to a factory school in Minnesota for two weeks in January the coldest time of the year. To some this may be no big deal but I have lived in Hawaii for the last eleven years and California for nine years I even forgot how to spell snoow.

Being from Montana and Michigan I was giving the opportunity to be the driver in this frozen wastelands of the north. Gas is cheaper here so why not get a big four-wheel drive and drive faster because it is cheaper. While I'm on the subject about driving in Minnesota I would like to know when someone turns on their blinker to move over into your lane is it the law to speed up and cut them off. No such thing as driving with Aloha (friendship, courtesy).

SPAM0005.JPG (195145 bytes)  Did I mention that it got down to +1 degrees the other night, that's an 87-degree change in a couple of days? Along with the thrill of scraping ice off the windows just to see. Of course everyone we meet who knows  were from Hawaii would always comment on how nice it would be to be in there but it must be expensive. It is true that some items are more expensive but we seem to save a lot by not having to buy snoow tires or a complete new wardrobe. SPAM0007.JPG (162026 bytes)

With a weekend off and no plans a group of us planned a trip to the SPAM Museum. I know what your thinking sailors going to a museum. Not only that but the SPAM Museum. First remember SPAM the canned meat you had at fishing or hunting camp as a kid. Well Hawaii is the largest consumer of SPAM, you can go to the local McDonalds for SPAM and eggs for breakfast. We still buy and eat SPAM on a regular bases. Along with the school kids favorite SPAM Mutsobe. A delicious mix of a slice of cooked SPAM, rice and nori (seaweed wrapper) rolled into a neat and pocket able meal (after wrapping in cellophane).
