Supply List & Class Schedule

 

Name of Class: Black and White 201

 Students will need to have attended Hickam’s Basic Photography Class or talk to the instructor. Have a working understanding of their cameras and know how to develop and print in B&W.

 INSTRUCTOR: DAVID RICHERT

OUTLINE: SIX-SESSION CLASS TOTALING FIVE WEEKS

            Week 1) An in-depth use of Basic Camera Functions including Shutter Speeds, Depth of Field, Film Exposure, and the use of color filters in B&W film exposure. Discussion of “Starting Composition” and the “Rule of Thirds”

 Sat Week 1) A morning outdoor Photographing workshop and the afternoon Rotary processing of film.

 Week 2) The use of B&W Contrast filters in the dark room will be discussed. Along with Demo –“Making the Expressive Print using Dodging and Burning Techniques”.

**Students work independently in the Dark Room.

 Week 3) Sepia Toning and a picture-mounting demo.

**Students work independently in the Dark Room.

 Week 4) **Students work independently in the Dark Room.

 Week 5) Students will than display two or three of their prints the final week during a Potluck dinner.

 SUPPLIES:                 Camera preferably a manual camera with shutter speed and aperture control if you have an Auto Camera   study your manual to learn how to select manual controls.

                                     Two rolls minimum of B&W min 24exp your choice as to how much B&W Film you use during the workshop, but only one roll will be developed on Saturday.

                                     Printing paper of your choice but will require 8x10 for class Display.

                                     Mounting Board for 3 8x10 prints (frame shop)

 PROVIDED:              The use of the dark room and film developing during the course of the class. Mounting tape for 3 8x10 prints.

 

ATTIRE:                     Lab work – casual

 

ESTIMATED COST OF SUPPLIES:  Film $8 paper $15 and mounting board $2 Total $25
