Name of Class: INTRO TO BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOGRAPHY

INSTRUCTOR: DAVID RICHERT

OUTLINE: This class is the first step and is required for the other B&W classes. Students will learn basic use of a camera, composition and exposure. They will learn developing and printing of Black and White. After this class students on their own will be able to shoot, develop and print in Black and White.

OUTLINE: FOUR-SESSION CLASS TOTALING FOUR WEEKS

Week 1) Tuesday:**Lecture** Bring your camera and manual. Intro to Black & White Photography, How to use the Camera, composition and exposure.

** Students on their own will shoot one roll of T-MAX 100 film before next class

Week 2) Tuesday: Hand Development of exposed film. Students will learn and load film on to developing reels and process using small tank method.

Week 3) Tuesday: Contact Printing and Printing using Enlargers. Student will learn how to make a contact sheet and develop a print. Instruction will be given on enlarger usage and controls, and the use of printing easel and image focuser.

Week 4) Tuesday: Printing using Enlargers and talk about presentation of work.

SUPPLIES: 35 mm Camera with Manual

2 rolls Kodak T-MAX asa 100 B&W Film (available at Craft Store)

25 sheets, 8x10 B&W Glossy Printing Paper (available at Craft Store)

3 negative sheets (available at Craft Store)

small hand towel

PROVIDED: The use of the dark room and film developing during the course of the class.

ATTIRE: Lab work – casual , old or bring an apron photo chemicals will stain.
