Replacing a Back

[Home] [Up]

I had a nice camera but with a broken Film Pressure Plate. At first I thought it was a bad plate but further examination showed that one side of the spring was broken. No way to replace just the spring with out removing the rivets and the leather. (might be able to epoxy the spring to the back)

I had another camera with a bad shutter and the front was a little beat.

Another view of the back with the broken spring with the replacement back.

To remove the back you will need a small drift to punch out the hinge pin.

After the hinge pin is removed fit the two pieces together. On this one the two pieces would not fit and required a little filing to make the two fit (yellow arrows). Straighten the hinge pin and remove any oxidation from the pin. Guide the pin through each part individually a little adjustments might be needed to align the hinge. After both halves are good join the two together.  I put a little oil on the pin and guided the pin through the hinge with a small hammer.
